Part 1: Real Learning

My official title is “Senior Trainer,” but I don’t like using the “Senior” part because I associate that word with age rather than tenure. To my clients I am simply THEIR Bonfire Trainer—so that “Senior” part makes little difference to them too!

Ever since I started with our company in 1998, when people have asked me what I do, I have always smiled and said, “I help make the world a better place by teaching people to be nice to one another.”

In the simplest of terms I teach customer service and communication skills. More importantly, I’m good at making learning fun—I have the gift of gab and relate well to others. I can tell a good story and take things that are complicated and make them easy to understand. It’s my firm belief that humor is one of the best forms of expression.

Part 2: Real Fun

You should know…I am only one or two degrees of separation from many famous people, and I can always find Waldo. While I am a good cook and it comes easy to me, I struggle with baking. Baking is an exact science, whereas cooking is an art.

I’m entertained by:
• Time in the Kitchen (i.e., cooking up a storm on a sunny day)
• Anything Artsy—creating yard art, making girlie aprons out of fabric scraps, getting my hands in clay, immersing myself into the glass making world at the art center’s hot shop…the list goes on!

I laugh at:
• Classic 1980’s Films: Fletch, Ghostbusters, Stripes
• Physical Comedy (The Pink Panther and Mr. Bean movies crack me up!)
• Favorite Foreign Film: The Dinner Game (Who knew you could laugh so hard while reading subtitles?!)

Part 3: Real Results

So often I hear that what's taught in our courses also helps people in their personal lives as well as their work lives. I love it when a skeptic sees the "light" and I catch that a-ha moment on their face. It's not uncommon to have people tell me that our training was the best they ever had, that they're so grateful for the information, and that their employer valued them enough to bring us in. It's neat to see how their training can create a completely different environment!

Part 1: Real Learning

I’ve been in the Leadership & Development industry since the late 80s and joined Bonfire in 2011.  I am a Certified Professional Behavioral Analyst (CPBA) and throughout my career I have worked on learning initiatives for dozens of different industries—agriculture, pharmaceutical, wireless logistics, government, non-profit, insurance, medical supplies, healthcare, manufacturing…you name it.

At Bonfire Training, I help assess client development needs through on-site observation and meetings with leadership teams. Then I design, develop, and facilitate various training workshops and activities to meet our clients’ needs. I also work on our learning sustainability plans and program implementation to encourage ongoing success—to “keep the fire burning.”

Part 2: Real Fun

You should know…Greek yogurt with cherries makes me very happy. I’m also a carb lover. (Aren’t bakeries fun?)

I’m entertained by:
• Bookstore Wanderings (checking out L&D industry trends and issues of Vanity Fair)
• Jogging & Walking with good music playing on the iPod
• Watching Pro and College Soccer, Football, and Basketball
• Hanging out with my two, young adult children

I laugh at:
• My Kids—they’re a hoot, and it’s awesome to laugh together
• Ellen DeGeneres
• Jimmy Fallon

Part 3: Real Results

It is a thrill to work with a client from the very beginning. We work together to uncover what they want to accomplish for their business, and those clients who embrace the potential of staff development and engage with our sustainable follow-up activities truly end up seeing the rewards they wanted to achieve.

Every time I facilitate a coaching session with leadership teams I look forward to hearing them report back on advancements. Skill development increases, as does team cohesion, engagement, and morale. Seeing these benefits in actions is really a “walking on cloud nine” feeling for everyone involved!

Part 1: Real Learning

I am a trainer and I love it! I’ve specialized in human resources, communications, and leadership training since 2000 and began working with Bonfire in 2014. I facilitate people becoming a new-and-improved version of themselves. I help people determine their strengths and weaknesses and teach them new skills to be their best.

I especially love to teach people about leadership. I’m a big believer in lead from where you are—everyone can be leader, no matter what their position.

Part 2: Real Fun

You should know…I’m kind of a crazy collector—antique Santa’s and antique or hand-made nativities are my go-to. I don’t love to cook but do love to make soup. I also throw a mean tailgate party.

I’m entertained by:
• Reading
• Antiquing & Shopping
• Watching my kids play on various courts, fields, or pools
• Spending time with friends and family—especially my husband and four kids

I laugh at:
• My son—he has a very quick wit and is never afraid to act goofy
• Lola, the pug who can’t run (Check it out on YouTube, you won’t regret it!)
• TV Shows—Modern Family, The Middle, and How I Met Your Mother

Part 3: Real Results

The best part of my job is when I see a former class participant months or even years later and they tell me what an impact my training made for them.

For example, I received a call recently from a gal who had been in a few of my classes. She had switched jobs and was now in a leadership position and called me because she wanted to now offer the training to her group. She told me all of her takeaways from past training and how she wanted her group to “get it” too. That was definitely a feel-good moment for me!

Part 2: Real Fun

I love to shop – some might even call me a shopaholic but that ‘s going a little too far.  I simply love shoes and purses – I will never reveal how many pairs I own.  My second favorite hobby are my grand daughters , I love spending time with them and of course shopping for them . I love to Sing and I’ve been singing since I was a little girl, most say I’ve missed my calling.  Ive been in several bands as lead singer but my favorite is karaoke.   A fun fact – I’m a twin – I have a twin brother – No we are not identical – we are fraternal - I get asked that a lot J  Yes twin telepathy is real.

I laugh at:

A good stand -up comedy routine.  I love to laugh!  One of my favorite comediene is LaVell Crawford – he cracks me up.  I also love Jimmy Fallon.

Part 3: Real Results

I love the moments when a student confesses after class they didn’t want to be there, but at the end they were so glad they came because they have learned a new skill and are now committed to applying it right away.

Part 1: Real Learning

As CEO, I set the course for Bonfire and ensure that the right people are in the right positions doing the things that will keep us moving forward as a group. I’m a number cruncher, process creator, and spreadsheet queen that also keeps my finger on the emotional and cultural pulse of our company to ensure everything is running smoothly. I also make sure we’re still having fun!

My background is very diverse—from managing photography and interior design studios in Chicago, to office work and movie, music video, and television production. What all this taught me is I can do anything I believe I can do. I can flex to many different situations, personalities, and industries.

I also learned that there really is a common theme running through whatever business you’re in. It’s this: Treat people the way you would want to be treated, always do your best, and do the right thing—make decisions that you would feel good telling your grandma about.

Part 2: Real Fun

You should know…I have flying monkeys and I’m not afraid to use them. I am equally passionate about Metallica and Chopin. Also, my uncle, Cliff Raven, was a world famous tattoo artist—but he refused to give me a tattoo. (He said I was still too young and he was still too afraid of my father!)

I’m entertained by:
• Travel & Photography
• Anything Bill Murray says
• Cooking & Wine Tasting
• Decorating (and figuring out more ways to use Christmas lights as everyday décor)

I laugh at:
• Clever, dry, tongue-in-cheek comedy
• The Big Lebowski (favorite movie!)
• TV Shows—Arrested Development, Frasier, and Black-ish

Part 3: Real Results

The best days are when I hear one of my staff say they love what they do! Whether it’s a Trainer or someone in the office, I get total joy from knowing that Bonfire is a place where they know they are valued and truly making a difference—whether in our company or with a client. If they feel that, then I know I’ve done a good job.

Part 1: Real Learning

I am part of the Solutions Team at Bonfire and my main responsibilities are to work with our clients and potential clients to find training solutions for them in the areas of Customer Service, Communication Skills, Employee Engagement, Leadership…you name it! In addition to sales, I also help with marketing, which is a great way keep current with what’s happening in our industry.

My first job out of college was working the phones at a large call center. It was there that I first discovered my passion for training and customer service. This was a tough job—dealing with angry customers all day, every day, until I finally got some soft skills training to learn how to handle them better! That training enabled me to get promoted and help others do their jobs more effectively.

I came on board in 2006 after working in various coaching, training, and sales positions. Those past work experiences are why I’m so passionate about bringing Bonfire Training to our clients. Having the right training, and the right communication skills can have a huge impact on both our professional development and personal lives.

Part 2: Real Fun

You should know…I am a serious pop culture junkie. Not only do I watch (and binge watch) just about everything, I also typically know what is going on behind the scenes and what is coming up. I also secretly enjoy going to boy band concerts (One Direction, Justin Bieber, and 5 Seconds of Summer) with my kids. I’m always up for a fun event!

I’m entertained by:
• Hiking, Biking, Rollerblading, or anything outdoors
• Going to big, pop culture movie events on opening weekend!
• Spending time with my husband and three fabulous kids
• Jeopardy (we’re huge fans)

I laugh at:
• Sarcasm & Observational and Irreverent Humor
• TV Shows—Black-ish and The Goldbergs (a must-see for anyone who grew up in the 80’s)
• Comedians—Jim Gaffigan, John Mulaney, and of course, Louis C.K.

Part 3: Real Results

My favorite thing is when I get a call from someone who had our training years ago, typically in a former job, and wants to bring it to their current company and share the experience they had with others. This is actually a frequent occurrence. More than once I have been told that our training changed someone’s life for the better, or they learned something that they’ll never forget. I once had a client tell me it saved her marriage! It doesn’t get much better than that!

Growing up, I wanted to be a veterinarian; however, I found out very quickly that because of my love for animals, I didn’t have the heart to send them to that wonderful pet-home in the sky!  So I became a trainer in 1993 and found that I love to train and make a difference in a person’s life; there is no greater feeling than that - you almost literally see the ‘light bulbs’ of students going on.

It is truly an honor to be a part of this incredible company and team – to me, being a PRO means treating everyone as individuals, making a difference with each client, and continuing to better myself, our business and our clients.  Currently I am raising one lovely cat, Tess; two beautiful girls, Madison and Emma; and a wonderful husband, John – with him I look for fun, laughter til your belly hurts and tickets to a Kenny Chesney concert!
